Dr. Karl Ochsner is a STEM Teacher at St. Paul of the Cross School in Park Ridge, IL, with over 26 years of experience teaching Science and STEM. He holds a B.A. in Film Animation and Special Effects from Columbia College Chicago, an M.Ed. in Elementary Education, and an Ed.D. in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University. Dr. Ochsner has received several awards, including the National Catholic Educator Award for Most Distinguished Teacher and a Copperwing Award from the Phoenix Film Festival for Best Educational Film.
Since 2013, he has led his middle school students in participating in eCYBERMISSION and has had three student experiments aboard NASA-sponsored flights, exploring concepts like a magnetic space junk collector, solar generators in the stratosphere, and a thermoelectric generator. Dr. Ochsner is also an instructional coach for the University of Notre Dame’s STEM Fellowship and an Apple Learning Coach.
His hobbies include animation, VR, vegetable gardening, and exploring new technologies. In the coming year, Dr. Ochsner aims to bring more teachers into STEM leadership roles and participate in more STEM research, bridging the gap between higher education and elementary education to better prepare students for future technological advancements.
