Description: The ability of specific proteins to convert into the amyloid state plays a central role in many neurodegenerative and systemic diseases, and this phenomenon is also important for numerous physiological processes through functional amyloids. The Limbocker and Burpo labs at the United States Military Academy, West Point are looking for a skilled scientist to lead fundamental studies on the use of amyloids for: 1) drug discovery to understand and counteract pathological processes associated with aberrant aggregation, in particular in the context of traumatic brain injury (TBI), and 2) materials science of amyloids for biotechnological applications. PhD and experience in protein science, biophysics, and/or materials science are preferred, but not required. The role includes mentoring and training of undergraduate cadet researchers, grant writing, preparation of manuscripts, and potential travel for conferences.

Requirements: Ph.D./M.S. (Ph.D. preferred)
