Title: Thermal/Mechanical Engineering Research

Location: Army Research Lab – Adelphi Laboratory Center – Adelphi, MD

Description: DEVCOM ARL’s mission is to research and develop compelling technologies for the US Military and Defense sectors. This includes power electronics systems for military vehicles, power conversion systems, lasers, etc. The thermal team conducts research across electronics cooling, fluidic systems, and materials development for thermal energy storage. Major projects include phase change materials, electronic device packaging, and thermal modeling. The student’s project will cover materials investigation for thermal energy storage and its application to electronics cooling.

Requirements:

Research tasks may include:

  • Collect data using industry and research standard tools
  • Perform data analysis using Matlab or Python
  • Assist in thermal modeling of Army systems
  • Regularly present results and updates to the team and mentor

The student must:

  • Organize self and tasks effectively
  • Demonstrate focus and problem-solving skills
  • Be resilient
  • Be a strong communicator
  • Be interested in conducting and presenting research

Preference will be given to students with experience in CAD, Matlab/Python, and laboratory research/testing. The candidate should be a self-motivated, organized, quick learner who pays attention to detail and can think critically.
