GEMS 2024 Summer Program

The Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) Summer Program at the U.S. Combat Capabilities Development Command U.S. Army Research Laboratory (DEVCOM ARL) in Adelphi, MD, provides rising 5th – 12th grade students the opportunity to interact with scientists and engineers to explore essential research areas related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and careers.  If you enjoy hands-on activities and want to learn more about STEM topics and careers, apply to GEMS-Adelphi!

About DEVCOM ARL – Adelphi

Research at the Adelphi Laboratory Center focuses on many technological areas to include:  Electronics, Biotechnology, Photoelectric Chemistry, Computer Science, Renewable/Reusable Energy, and Robotics. GEMS participants will be engaged in hands-on activities, work in collaborative groups and interact with scientists and engineers to explore STEM subjects and careers.

Sessions

GEMS I:  Students entering 5th – 8th grade will explore electronics, reusable energy, biotechnology, cyber security, and robotics through engaging demonstrations, tours and hands-on laboratory activities throughout the one-week session.

GEMS II:  Students entering 9th – 10th grade will acquire knowledge about circuit design, electronic devices, biotechnology, computer science and robotics through engaging demonstrations, tours, and hands-on laboratory activities throughout the one-week session.

GEMS III: Students entering 9th – 12th grade will immerse themselves in the world of cybersecurity during a one-week interactive STEM program. Join us for an exciting week of hands-on learning, where participants will explore the fundamentals of cybersecurity and engage in real-world simulations, master cutting-edge tools, and collaborate with Cyber experts to develop practical skills in protecting digital systems.
