Tell Us about Yourself
I teach integrated STEM to 6th graders. I am also a doctoral student in STEM Education at Texas Tech University
What AEOP program(s) did you participate in?
Research Experiences for STEM Educators and Teachers (RESET)
Words of Advice?
Teaching STEM out of a textbook is no longer an option. Students need authentic engaging experiences. Participating in RESET inspired me and gave me new resources for the classroom.
Best Things about the Program?
The best thing about participating in RESET was being able to work as a scientist—in the field, at the university, and in the lab. Seeing the daily work of actual scientists allowed me to bring a new perspective to my students. I was fortunate to be able to experience so much in such a short period of time.
How Participating in AEOP Inspired You to Advance in the STEM Field?
My students often have preconceived notions of what the life of a scientist looks like. Through engaging stories of birds, turtles, and more, I have brought science to life and have made STEM careers exciting possibilities for my students!
Who is your favorite STEM role model?
Mary Jackson, a mathematician and aerospace engineer. Mary Jackson was a pioneer for women in math and science and at NASA specifically.
Fun Fact
I am especially interested in the intersection of STEM education and global collaboration. I have travelled to China and Germany to study STEM education and will travel to South Africa in the summer of 2019 to study.
