Words of Advice?

It’s important to have determination and true passion for a career in science. Start somewhere, whether that be an internship, starting your own research,or collaborating with others in the field. By starting early, you get to discern whether science is a passion of yours.

Best Things about the Program?

After contracting Malaria in Niger, I grew curious of what was happening inside me. During my illness, I saw how government infrastructure can affect the quality of healthcare which pushed me to want to make a difference. Since then, I’ve been committed to the field of infectious disease and its relation to healthcare equality.

How Participating in AEOP Inspired You to Advance in the STEM Field?

The most beneficial part of AEOP was connecting with my mentor and seeking guidance. This was a surprise, since, because it was the military, I expected people to be more closed off. Seeing how open, down-to earth, and helpful my mentor was allowed me to be more comfortable.

Who is Your Favorite STEM Role Model? Why?

Elon Musk and his innovative ideas make him my role model because he not only thinks outside the box, but creates his own.

What are Your Future Hopes and Dreams?

To create new visions, be a productive scientist, and inspire the next generation of science and scientists. How vital is a deep and thorough understanding of mathematics, statistics, etc.? Could I be a scientist even if I have some fear of mathematics?
