Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS)
Tell me about your AEOP Experience
GEMS is an interactive experience where I had the chance to build things and conduct experiments. I learned about various military careers and the research the Army is doing to protect soldiers. I also had the opportunity to meet other kids my age who share an interest in STEM.
What's Something that has Surprised You about the AEOP Program?
What surprised me about GEMS was the opportunity to attend the program in actual Army labs. I participated at both the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and the U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory.
What are your Future Hopes and Dreams?
I hope to be successful in life and help others through a career in medicine and compassionate care, possibly in the nursing and education field.
What Got you Interested in this Program?
I first became involved with GEMS in 2019 after hearing rave reviews from my older sister, who attended in previous years. I was particularly interested because the program focused on STEM and hands-on learning and experiments. After such a positive experience with GEMS, I continued attending every summer through 2023. I am excited to participate again in summer 2025!
